Advocacy
This will be the starting point for help with advocacy in Brevard
One of the BSG's highest priorities is ensuring that children with TS in our county
schools receive the appropriate consideration that they are entitled to under the
law.
Tourette Syndrome is listed in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
as a disability. It is also listed in the Individuals with Disabilities Education
Act (IDEA) as a learning disability. As such, your child may
be entitled to an Independent Education Plan (IEP).
However, establishing that TS is detrimentally affecting your childs progress in
school can sometimes be difficult.
The material links that will follow in this area of our website will help guide you in
determining if an IEP is needed and if advocacy help from one of our members will
be necessary.
An excellent resource for all things pertaining to learning disabilities and advocacy
can be found at the National Center for Learning Disabilities.
